I will be asking my boss but wanted to find out on here. Just started a new job work 8-2 everyday my understanding was its 30 hours no break because it's not OVER 6 hours a day. Got the contract through and it's 27.5 hours so now I'm confused am I entitled to a break or not? I don't want to take 30 mins out if rather finish half an hour earlier? Confused.com

Looks like they have given you an unpaid break of 30 minutes. They can give you a break even if they don't have to by law.

Maybe they need someone in until 2pm so you finishing earlier will not work for them

So where do I stand with that? By law am I entitled to one?

No, you'd be entitled to a 20 minute break if you work more than 6 hours (could be paid or unpaid). Lots of employers will give you a break even if you dont work more than 6 hours at a time. It's up to them what they offer. Maybe they are treating it like a lunch break and need someone in until 2pm

You are probably needed between 8 and 2, the business may be busiest before 9 and at lunchtime 12-2... they require you to take a break as the needs of the business dictate. It is unpaid. You are not "entitled" to a break by law, but are by your contract. They can dictate when it is to be taken.
