New job problems

I work in the public sector and was in my last post for 4 years and I loved it. However due to a new computer system 90% of the jobs in my department are being dissolved to we were encouraged to apply for other roles within the department. Myself and a few of my close colleagues were successful and have been reposted. I am not an IT kind of person and was reassured that this was an admin post supporting an IT team - however now the job has begun I find that it is very IT orientated and I feel very lost. Job is currently working from home and training so far has been limited to reading a few manuals. I am spending most of my time doing nothing (but staying logged on laptop). Only consolation is that my newly recruited colleagues are in the same boat. Feeling very despondent. I am in my early 50s and not a confident person. I would not have changed jobs at my age if I had not been pressed.

How long have you been in your new job for and will it remain remote working ?
