P45?

This isn't an employment issue as such but I know all you knowledgeable people pick things up here so please forgive me!

Is a paper P45 still a thing? And if so what's the timescale for receiving one?

I can see on my online HMRC that my employer has ended my employment so I've submitted my tax rebate form (as I'm now on my mat leave but not leave because I'm not employed...thing) but it asked me if I'd had my P45 yet and of course had to tick no. Had final payslip and actual money with no issues, employment ended on 31st August.

Just wanted to clarify if I should be expecting something in the lost from employer before I can expect something else from HMRC or is the fact I've been 'ended' online sufficient and the wording of the Q on HMRC isn't quite right?

In the post that should be. Hopefully it's not lost.

We email them.

Yes you will get one - it may be hard copy in the post, or if you have payslips emailed you may get it that way.

It needs to be done after your final pay though, and with us after the following months pay to allow for a final overtime claim.

Give them chance Smile

Thanks both, will be paper then as we've been locked out of emails as leavers. They did say payroll was closing for us in 31st August too after HR offered a 'solution' to a problem that payroll then said it would be impossible to carry out, so I'm a bit cautious about the quality of info that we've had!

I'll continue to pounce on postie until it arrives, then 🙂
