Anyone declined a job offer before and was able to salvage it?

Hi,

I was lucky to receive two job offers recently, one short term contract through a recruitment agency and one permanent. I accepted the permanent one and rejected the contract one, however the permanent one has since been withdrawn before a contract was drawn, I'm absolutely gutted.

I know I should have waited for the permanent contract to come through first however the agent gave me a deadline to sign the contract as they wanted me to start the contract asap and I didn't want to mess them around. I feel so stupid and full of regret now 😥

I'm considering reaching out to the agent to see if the contract is still available but I think it's too late. Just wondering if anyone has been in this position before and was able to get a job offer they previously declined back or if any recruiters on here have given a second chance to a candidate before?

Thanks.

I was in a similar position once, where I accepted a role then declined it for another role. When I saw the roel advertised again, I did apply, but didn't get shortlisted, so the employer was clearly annoyed.

There is no harm in reaching out, but don't be surprised if you get a less than favourable response. It's more difficult if you have to go through a recruitment agent because they may be less inclined to go back to the employer.

There is no harm in asking, they may have already filled it, or just not want someone who declined them first time around, but you will not know unless you ask.

There is no downside to asking, the worse that can happen is they say no. If I were the second employer, I would say no, because I would be concerned you would leave for a better offer, but there is no harm in asking.

Thanks all. I contacted the agent but no reply 😭 I totally understand though.

No harm in having asked. The worst they can say is no.

Fingers crossed.

Good luck!!

Contact them again. If they got you a job offer, they'll probably be keen to get you on the contract or another one.
Good luck
