What’s the pay ?

If a job advert says £25,000 per annum but the job is part time, are they stating the full time wage or the part time wage? I thought they usually put ‘pro rata’ if you needed to work out the full time wage.

Depends on the type of work and qualification requirements.

VerveClique · 08/09/2021 10:36

You could just ask? There's often a lack of clarity over these things.

If it is part time, make sure you know what the full time hours would be - e.g. 37.5, 38, 40 etc.

notanotherjacketpotato · 08/09/2021 10:37

They don't always say "pro rata" but the advertised salary is almost always the full time salary. You need to ask.

Bluntness100 · 08/09/2021 10:39

You need to ask if they haven’t said, maybe you can assume that’s the actual pay and then calculate up how much it would be if it was full time and see if it seems weirdly high so you’d then know it would be pro rated.

Yes I always hate asking about money. The actual salary would be very low if it isn’t the part time wage

It looks like it would be £7.11 per hour. Is that even minimum wage these days?

That doesn't make sense, OP. Your calculations must be wrong. £25k is more than FT minimum wage so the part time equivalent must also be more.
AlexaShutUp · 08/09/2021 10:53

How many hours per week is the role? Or what FTE is it?

Porridgealert · 08/09/2021 10:53

How many hours are you working? To earn 25,000 at 7.11ph, you'd need to be working nearly a 70 hour week.

VerveClique · 08/09/2021 10:55

Just ask.

People ask about salaries all the time.

Itsbeen84yearss · 08/09/2021 10:55

Sorry wasn’t clear in the first post. I was just giving an example salary. The salary is £13860 which if it’s full time I get to be just over £7?

OP posts:
VerveClique · 08/09/2021 10:57

You need to know how many hours a week the job is for, and what the full time hours within the business are.

Without this information you can't tell.

AlexaShutUp · 08/09/2021 10:58

Yes, that would be below minimum wage for an adult. So maybe it is the PT wage after all?

AlexaShutUp · 08/09/2021 10:59

Unless aged 20 or below, that is.

AlexaShutUp · 08/09/2021 11:00

Or unless 30 hours per week is considered full time, but that would be very unusual!

Itsbeen84yearss · 08/09/2021 11:03

I think their full time hours are 35 but still very low. Hmmm. I’m definitely 20 and I can’t see a 20 year old being suitable really

OP posts:
Itsbeen84yearss · 08/09/2021 11:04

Definitely not 20 should say!

OP posts:
AlexaShutUp · 08/09/2021 11:09

Not sure that they could legally target an advert at younger candidates anyway, OP - I think that would be age discrimination.

Sounds like it's probably the PT wage to me.

Oblomov21 · 08/09/2021 11:21

£13,860 is the part time salary surely?

£25k/ 52 weeks / 37.5 hours = £12.82

£12.82 x 20 hours per week x 52 weeks = Annual salary of £13,333.

Itsbeen84yearss · 08/09/2021 11:30

You would hope so

Bluntness100 · 08/09/2021 12:47

Op do you know how many hours a week the job is for? I’d also assume that salary is the part time salary.

Itsbeen84yearss · 08/09/2021 13:33

20 I think

OP posts:
SpeakingFranglais · 08/09/2021 21:00

Is this a school job, term time only?

Bluntness100 · 08/09/2021 21:20

Suspect that must be the wage for twenty hours op. Can’t see it being anything else,

Itsbeen84yearss · 08/09/2021 22:12

No it’s not a school job. I’ve stuck the application form in despite the fact I don’t know the pay 😂
