Hi I was just wondering if anyone knew due to covid if nhs Scotland employees in a higher risk area are still to start mat leave at 28 weeks? Do you actually start leave then it seems unfair as could be 14weeks until baby?! Anyone in situation? Thanks 😊

Nobody starts mat leave at 28 weeks. The earliest it can start is 29 weeks. They can't force you onto maternity leave except in the last 4 weeks before the birth if you are off with a pregnancy related illness

Yeah because of covid though and certain jobs 28 weeks is when a lot of nhs been “finishing” so I was wondering if it was Mat leave or “other” leave. Risk assessment changed this last year…..

It would not be mat leave. You would either be doing a different less risky job or be suspended on full pay until mat leave started, if there was no such job you could do.

Don't know if guidance has changed since shielding rules changed; you'd need to check the current policy
