due to go back to work soon, my evil boss has refused any form of flexible working (apparently whole of civilisation would crumble if i did one lousy day a week from home) and is basically offering my old job ft long hours mad stress or nothing.
longterm i need a new job. but shortterm i need as many crafty ways as possible to save time at work and at home, so i can spend more of it with poor ds (six months old). already planning to hire a cleaner, what else has worked for you?

Haha spacepuppy! What are your childcare arrangements going to be? We have a nanny who looks after our 2 dcs, who effectively acts as unofficial housekeeper as well, which is FANTASTIC. All agreed in advance, but she does all laundry and ironing, does all children's cooking (batch cooked and frozen), keeps kitchen spotless and will cook for us too sometimes. She is in fact a complete star. With 1 6 month old to look after, anyone who comes in to look after your dc should have some time to be a mothers help as well (which is how we set it up with our current nanny).
I must say, our life would completely fall apart without her.
On top of all that massive hep that our nanny gives us, dh and I share all the rest of the domestic stuff and parenting.

thanks for all of these...spacepuppy you have a point . we are definitely having a nanny (interviewing now, blardy nightmare) and will think seriously about how much extra we can get her to do. other than that will just have to get less sleep.....at least ds is helping me practise that one....

Can your DH/DP cut down his hours if you can't? IME it makes a big difference if one of you is working less than full time.
