Hello,

I am a 28 year old lone parent of two, my oldest DC is 7 and disabled.

I am just about to submit my MA dissertation and trying to work out next steps. My 10 year plan made at 23 had my employed in a job job at 33. I'm not really in a position just yet to return to work due to oldest DC but I really want to work towards my goal.

Would volunteering be a good use of the next couple of years?

Anything else I can do? I'm very aware that having not worked for five years I can't really be very employable :(

If you get DLA for your son, you are also entitled to carers allowance.
You may want to work part time in any job to get back into the swing of working. I think that is what I would do
