Interviewing at old workplace

Has anyone ever returned to an old workplace after some time elsewhere?

I worked for a big corporate for 6 years... was a good place to work good people and busy interesting work... but I had reached what i thought was a peak and wanted to move to a new role for a new challenge

Anyway new challenge turned out to be mind numbingly boring for slightly more money- the couple extra ££ a month isnt worth feeling like im stagnating

Anyhoo a job has come up at my old place and I am going to apply. I left on as good terms as you could imagine...but I feel awkward...

Has anyone ever gone back to an old workplace, did people see it as a failure Sad (Note- I am applying for the job they may reject me/better candidate...I am just getting ahead of myself!)

Thanks

Is it for the same role? If it is then you'll have to be able to give a very clear reason why you've applied for it again and convince them you won't be leaving again.

Thanks- not exactly the same, directly reporting to same manager but in a different team/department

Clear reason why- I appreciate the pace and diversity offered within this role/organisation and want to return to a role that ensures no 2 days are the same... I can go on holiday for 2 weeks in my current place and come back and litterally nothing moved along, its groundhog day

Sounds good then. I think as long as you are clear why this department is now a good fit for you you'll be in with a good chance. But if it is the same manager expect to be grilled on this a bit.

A colleague of mine quit in March to start a new job. She re-applied to our company again and started this Monday. It's not humiliating. If you get an interview just explain how you are excited to come back and what you liked about working there and how you have changed so they can see that you are not planning on quitting soon.
