I have been working in my current job for around 5 years. I moved to this role as it was slightly closer to home and I had hoped for an internal transfer at some stage (which never materialised). My current commute is 45 mins each way, 3 days per week (and just 10 mins each way on days 4 & 5). Colleagues are really awful and have made working life really difficult. The role isn't very demanding, a bit drab, but workable.

A new post (similar role) has been advertised with another company that I worked for before. I loved my colleagues but the commute was much longer- about one hour each way 5 days a week. I only moved company in the hope that I would be much closer to home by now and travelling/ commuting less (several offices). The previous company are really keen to have me back.

My question is... to stay in mediocre role with awful colleagues and shorter commute? Or move to more innovative, forward thinking team that I enjoyed working with, but with longer commute? Confused

How did you feel about the commute before? It obviously wasn’t great if you left because you wanted a role closer to home.
What would make you unhappy the most -a long commute or difficult colleagues and a drab job?

I think I would rather travel further (cost allowing) and enjoy walking into the building, seeing my colleagues and doing a job I enjoy tbh.
