There's a very senior role available at my organisation - director level, well into six figures, generally the sort of top job that people going into my industry aspire to.

I'm likely to get it if I want it (nothing certain, but I'm the obvious candidate for various reasons).

I'm currently the rung below, and until recently I hadn't expected to make this move for a couple of years.

All good. But I have a two year old, and my plan is to TTC no2 in the new year.

My company (and industry) talks a good game on work life balance and supporting senior women, but it doesn't always match up to reality.

I know it's a really individual thing, but I'd be interested to know what other senior women might do?

I'd take the promotion and if it doesn't work out for you with the work-life balance, at least you can find another job with the higher grade on your cv.

I'd go for it. If you do get it and conceive you'll have been in role for at least a year before you start mat leave so, like PP said, even if it doesn't work out with that company you have the experience.

I would go for it. If your organisation talks a good game, having a senior woman have a baby and take maternity leave is the best visible demonstration to those in lower grades that this is actively ok. You'd be a brilliant role model

Agree. Go for the promotion. It will put you in a position where you really can fight for a proper work-life balance of that is what you need in 2 years time (after mat leave no2)

Thank you!

I officially told the big boss today that I'm interested, and got very good vibes 🤞
