I have an interview next week for a job as a catering assistant in a primary school

Does anyone have any ideas about the sorts of questions I might be asked?

TIA

Probably a safeguarding question

SnitchyBitch · 09/08/2021 19:57

Safeguarding, what would you do if a child disclosed sensitive information to you etc.

SnitchyBitch · 09/08/2021 19:59

They might also ask you about scenarios when you overcame a problem involving a child so great if you have an example you could use.

Also, what your strengths are and how you could apply them to the role.

If you can afford it consider doing a basic online level 1&2 food safety course. I can't remember the proper name for it and also a basic safeguarding course

My mom had a job as a school catering assistant and was asked about knowledge of kitchen standards, qualifications and willingness to undertake if needed, safeguarding, dbs, working in a team, work history.

My Mom had been out of work for 8 years or so I think it was more about showing a willingness to learn and work well within a team and fit in with who is already there. However bare in mind they can be very very strict. My Mom was issued a warning for a piece of her hair falling out her hair net, she was told she hadn't tied her hair properly, and on another occasion some bean juice got on her hand and she carried on serving. I personally feel they were being particularly harsh however they happened.

I work in a school kitchen. You will probably be asked a safeguarding question, for example what would you do if a child disclosed they were being mistreated at home. You'll also be asked about food allergies and your awareness of them.
Good luck

Thank you

Sorry for interrupt, I would like to know if a child disclosed they were being mistreated at home, is it I should report to school? And if a child disclosed their worries to me, should I also report to school? I am not sure if I need to keep it secret as the child trusts me and it’s also about their privacy, or I need to report to school as well? Thanks.

You must never make promises, as safeguarding is priority. Any concerns must be logged on appropriate software for the DSL and SG team to follow up. This can be your concerns following a conversation with said child/person, a concern on the their appearance, their overall behaviour or towards others, the behaviour of parents, the list is actually massive.
Always report your concerns and never make promises to keep something to yourself. Remember Safeguarding is every one's res
