Raising a grievance about a direct report

Wondering if anyone can advise . I’m a senior manager raising a grievance about an employee related to conduct that I witnessed (against me). Has anyone experienced this yet ? I keep thinking it will be seen as ‘weak management’ on my part but I strongly believe this incident should go on record / file so the person takes it seriously and adapts their behaviour .

Discuss with HR about dealing with it as a misconduct issue through the disciplinary policy rather than a grievance.

Yes I would recommend this be pursued under the disciplinary policy as misconduct.

HR bod here ... you have the ability to use disciplinary procedures against your own team so a grievance procedure would be inappropriate in this circumstance.

Do you have a helpful HR department?
