So gutted

I was successfully shortlisted and interviewed for a NHS admin role. Part of the essential criteria was GCSE English and Maths at C or above. I have English but not Maths which was correctly documented on my application. I do have a BTEC at Distinction level which is equivalent to 3 grade A A levels and is my highest qualification.

In the middle of pre employment checks now and they've asked to see my certificates which I have taken in today. I have since had a email asking me to confirm if I have Maths. I'm so upset this is probably now all going to be taken away from me. I can't understand why if it was so important why was I even shortlisted and interviewed when it was clear on my application i don't have it. I have 14 years experience in a similar role and it's just gutting that it's got this far to be taken away Sad Any advice anyone?

What is your BTEC in? Does it involves some numerical skills? If so, I'd try to justify this meaning it's equivalent to a C in GCSE.

Ultimately, they will likely be reluctant to start the whole process again, so will want you to tick the boxes. Also, the person doing the checks is likely to be a lower grade and just following the process they've been told to follow. If it becomes a challenge, make sure you deal with the person who would be your manager. In the end, it will be up to them, but they would have to be careful as they would be in trouble if challenged having given the job to someone who doesn't meet the criteria whilst turning down others in similar circumstances.

So I haven't had a response from HR but I have emailed the hiring manager and they have responded saying they knew the situation prior to interview and considered the BTEC to be more than adequate proof of my level of education so they are contacting HR and will keep me updated.

great news. You must feel much reassured.
