Any Work from Home Ideas ?

lovinit · 08/11/2004 05:18

I am beginning to feel really anxious about money and would love to be able to do something from home so that I can still see my DD and not have to go into an office. I have been thinking of Pyramid Marketing options but not sure how to go about finding out about them ... Any ideas anyone ?

I would like to be able to focus on something else other than DD whom I adore . I feel a bit braindead sometimes having come from a city financial job to being a full time housewife who is fortunate enough to also have someone to come in and do housework for me. (I know how LUCKY i am !)

twoforone · 09/11/2004 12:00

Walla........is it ok if i CAT you too? I have been reading this too wondering about working from home.

wallawallabingbang · 09/11/2004 12:13

Of course it is!

morningpaper · 09/11/2004 12:43

I do websites from home - put together about 2 a month. I work in evenings and weekends and dd goes to nursery on Fridays so I work then.

I'd really recommend it!

Branster · 09/11/2004 12:59

morningpaper how do you find clients? Do you approach small bussinesses yourself or is it word of mouth. Do you also deal with maintaining the sites?
It's something I always thought of doing but never got around to sorting out.

morningpaper · 11/11/2004 20:25

Branster: Firstly I did a few for family/friends who have small businesses - they were CHUFFED and I got to add their sites to my portfolio (a website). It was also great experience because it's easiest to learn by DOING sites.

A lot of my clients are small charities and small companies, because I offer a competitive rate (prices from 200 quid, 100 quid if I REALLY like the person ). (Obviously there are hosting costs for the client on top of that - which is about 50 quid a year for a decent service.)

I have placed ads in places like parish magazines and my local NCT magazine - places that reach smaller clients.

I have also worked with local small charities - once you get known to do them cheap, then you can get more and more charity work, I find. I charge the most for charities - up to 600 quid - because there is a lot of grant money available specifically for that and I also find they are a lot more work then small businesses, because generally you deal with several people, all of who have different ideas about what they want!

I've produced some leaflets etc. which I send out to people - if you want to have a look, CAT me and I'll email them to you. I am COMPLETELY happy for anyone to share my ideas.

morningpaper · 11/11/2004 20:26

I do a bit of maintenance - charge around £25 a month to update sites - but this is REALLY boring and although it brings in regular cash, I always put it off...

zephyrcat · 11/11/2004 20:31

Hiya Walla - I also do bodyshop - what are the mini IQ books? Sounds like something i'd like to sell!!

KatieMac · 11/11/2004 20:36

Sorry to be rude lovinit and hijack your query, but....

Morning Paper I need a website and I'd planned on doing it myself - but can't do all the hosting stuff could I CAT you for some advise (I would of course pay....)I'm planning on using Dreamweaver

morningpaper · 11/11/2004 21:04

Katiemac: please feel free to CAT me! (and anyone else who's interested)

KatieMac · 11/11/2004 21:12

Morningpaper - I can't CAT you - you 'chose' not to be CATed....could you change it?

JJ · 11/11/2004 21:16

MP, do you do your own hosting? Just curious, really!

morningpaper · 11/11/2004 21:21

KatieMac: Sorry I can't find the option in my member profile to choose to be catted, so I've catted you instead!

JJ: I don't do my own hosting - I have worked for small companies that did it in the past and it was SOooooooooo much hassle and servers would die in the middle of the night and 15 people would ring you to fix it. I use www.xcalibre.co.uk or, if I'm doing something a bit cheaper, www.123-reg.co.uk , although they are not as reliable.

KatieMac · 11/11/2004 21:32

Thanks Morningpaper
Sorry for interrupting lovinit
