Worried about new job, advice needed

Hi everyone,

I will keep this short as i can and i cant say much due to my job as it is in a care setting so i don't want to be outted.

I have been in my new job for about 4 weeks, i have wanted to get into my line of work for years so i was overjoyed when i finally got in. I have been given a specific job title but i also do some admin work so i am absolutely fine with that.

We are a very small team and I am suppose to be shadowing my co workers, however on my first day i felt a bit unwelcomed and i heard that they had expressed they dont need anyone for the position i got hired for. So, on my first day one of my co workers asked me what my actual title was and more or less said "Well no disrespect to you, but i do that as i know i will do it right".

At first i thought nothing of it, but now i am left at the front and i do nothing 5 out of my 8 hour shift. I have asked if they want any help but not much yet. I feel very disappointed so far and i am thinking well if he is i suppose "putting me in my place" then what am i doing there?

AIBU to think i should be trained more, please keep in mind i have a job title and it doesn't look like i am going to be doing much of that, If any as they seem territorial. I have thought of speaking to my manager,

Any advice?
Thanks

You should raise your concerns with your manager, yes.

Speak to your manager. Ask if there is a plan with regard to your training and mention that you are not too sure what you are supposed to be doing and don't have a lot to do.

I wouldn't name names but I would mention that your colleagues haven't been particularly supportive and you feel quite awkward. Say that you're not too sure how to handle it.

Haven't you have regular one to one with your manager? They really should be weekly to start with. They should be guided you on your role.

It sounds like there is some bitterness going on with the team, not directed at you personally, but at management and decisions they made. It sounds like they felt someone should have been promoted rather than advertising for the job. It's not fair on you, but that happens. Don't despair, they could turn around and warm up to them. Try to get into their bubble and understand their frustration so at least you know what their issue is.

Then get better direction from your manager. It might be that they really are the issue and sadly, you might be better off looking for something else.
