Last week I started my new job as a HCA, this week I’m doing moving snd handling. Can anyone tell me what this involves? What I will be shown, what I need to do, will I be tested etc?
If you’ve been a hca or are currently one, please tell me everything! I haven’t worked in care before!Blush

You’ll be shown how to use lifting/moving equipment, given a little lesson about the bones (spine in particular), and will be told about consent and how to get the patient to join in and help.

YouTube hoists and slide sheets.

Might give you an idea.

@TheLightSideOfTheMoon how difficult is it learning the moving and handling stuff? So worried I’ll do it wrong!

It’s totally idiot proof. Honestly.

Just take your time.

It's pretty easy. You just have to be careful is all.

Yes it really is once you've been shown.

It’s straightforward.
Essential to keep you safe and the people that you are moving safe, you need to be taught correct techniques.
There’s equipment that you will need to have a “play” with so that you know how it works.
I learn by actually touching and messing rather than being talked at so I like the practicality of these sessions.
Honestly, nowt to be worried about as others have said, you will probably find it interesting.
Oh and no tests, no exams, not put on the spot, not questioned. Don’t worry!
