Back pay question

user9087754 · 27/07/2021 11:58

Can anyone tell me what it means if money is deducted from my wages and it says back pay?

Have they overpaid you at some point?
Back pay is normally added to your wage not deducted from it

I’m not sure, I was furloughed and been back 5 months not noticed an overpayment.

You’re going to have to ask them OP.

You’re going to have to ask them OP.
I will but manager on holiday now for two weeks. Surely they can’t just take money away without telling me, it’s £250 😳

No one said they can take money without telling you. Of course they need to tell you. But we can’t tell you on their behalf, you’re going to have to ask them, and then depending on the reason, which could be any number of things, you’ll then be able to work out what you can do, if anything.

Ask whoever does the payroll what the deduction was for, and take it from there.

Managed to get in contact with HR last week, couldn't wait for manager to return. They have no idea and are looking into it, contacted them again yesterday and there still looking into it. Anyone have any idea of how long is a reasonable amount of time for them to be looking into it?

They’ll be asking payroll. There’s no set amount of reasonable time, it depends on the organisation and what’s involved. Can you not contact payroll directly?

user9087754 · 03/08/2021 19:43

No we can't contact payroll directly and have to go through manager or HR which is a shame as would be good to talk directly to them.
