Help with Job application and CV for new job

Hi, I am returning to work after a career break. I am currently looking for work and the thought of completing an application form seems really daunting. Are there companies who can help with this and do you have to pay. Has anyone used one and were they worth it? I know there are government initiatives for those who are classed as unemployed, but I don't seem to qualify.

Can anyone help/advise?

Thanks

Hi Calil,
Although there are companies that do this, I'm not always sure they have the insight to get the application really focussed on the role you are applying for.
Personally, I have asked friends and family for copies of theirs to look at different formats and phrases they use that really sounds punchy. Working through the application with someone else can be really useful, they can help draw out relevant experience that you wouldn't even have thought of.
I'd keep your money and spend it on some gorgeous shoes for your first day in your fantastic new job!! Good luck!

Hello

If you are applying for work in the public sector when you fill in the personal statement section make sure you refer to each aspect of the person spec and give examples of how you meet each one. Generally when organisations are shortlisting you will be making their life easier as they will be able to see that you meet all of their essential criteria.

Not sure if private companies do this too as have no experience of working in them...

Lots of good HR advice on here too!

Thanks, I will have a go. I'll speak to family/friends who have recently applied for jobs. Its a shame that the government isn't doing anything for mums returning to work after a career break.
