What annoys you in the workplace?

I've compiled a list of things that get my goat in the workplace.

Mine are

  1. Whip rounds (nothing wrong with cards btw)
  2. People who organise whip rounds and tea/coffee club accounts and skim money.
  3. workaholic wannabe-makes sure everyone knows she has to do unapid overtime (usually because they've been smoking/chatting on the phone all day).
4 Favouritism/Nepotism
  1. Bosses tricking you out of holiday entitlement
  2. Unpaid overtime.
  3. Baby bores including the numpties going on about neices/nephews/friend's kids. Had one colleague who goes on about her cats. No one cares.
  4. Colleagues who have frequent cigarette breaks/too many coffee breaks
  5. The humble braggers who go on about how they enjoy being busy but get pissy when pace does pick up.
10. All get paid the same but some colleagues get the easy fun jobs. 11. Person who has another job so everyone lets them take it easy. 12. Employers who expect 100% loyalty from staff but provide very little job security in return. 13. Employers who won't train staff but complain when mistakes are made 14. The contradictory expectation that employees use their own initiative but at same time having to obey company protocol to the T 15 (retail) colleagues who go on about how they love customers, but avoid actually working with them.

What are your peeves?

People who think they are funny but actually arent, equally the people who bolster them up by saying how funny or mad the individual is.

Lazy people who let everyone else do the hard graft.

People who plan their holidays around every single bank holiday so nobody else gets a chance.

People who refuse to do a particular day/shift because they have a child who does football/dancing etc.

Backstabbers and fakeness.

People who deliberately make the atmosphere frosty or bully others.

Bosses who want ever last second of your time plus extra ie arrive 15 mins early and ready to start, if a customer rings at 1 min to 5 you need to answer it, even if that means staying back an extra hour.

Bosses who do not appreciate the efforts of those who just get their head down and get on without complaining.

People who think being in a higher position or managerial position means they can speak to you like crap. Luckily I don’t get this where I work now.

I’m happy to accept direction or constructive criticism but I won’t allow someone to speak to me rudely or abruptly just because they’re a manager of some kind. Especially if I have better knowledge of a specific area I’m not acting stupid to make you feel better because you’re a manager will less knowledge than me in a specific area.

OP, with a list like that i think it's time you found a new job!

FionnulaTheCooler · 20/07/2021 19:06

Colleagues who spend every break time watching Tik Tok videos on their phone with the volume up and no headphones.

FizzyPink · 20/07/2021 19:07

Over enthusiastic arse lickers who make everyone else look bad with their enthusiasm

KarlMaldensNose · 20/07/2021 19:10

Everything already said and just…..
Being in the workplace
Luckily I can listen to music through my earbuds a lot of the time otherwise it would be an episode of ‘snapped’

Longdistance · 20/07/2021 19:11

Lack of communication. There’s three of us in the office and only one that is the bosses PA, she gets to know everything, but when a query comes in about said ‘secret squirrel’, me and my other colleague looks stupid.

Changethetoner · 20/07/2021 19:12

Sitting next to a sniffer, or someone with bad sinuses that you can actually hear crackling.

People who eat smelly food at their desk.

MarshaBradyo · 20/07/2021 19:12

People eating crunchy cereal in the morning

CaptSkippy · 20/07/2021 19:17
  1. Management having no clue what is involved in technical work and barely listening when you try to educate them on it. Management only caring about billable hours, even though a minimum amount of administration is vital to keeping organised and on top of things.
  1. Chronic understaffing and refusing to hire more staff untill they sell another mega project. At which point we have too few skilled people to deliver the project and not enough time to hire and train new people to deliver on time and to customer satisfaction.
  1. People yelling on the phone for most of the day.
  1. Open plan offices, so you have to listen the concerns of people whose work has nothing to do with yours, while you try to block out the extraneous chatter and focus on your own work.
  1. Men gossiping about women they know, particularly about the wifes of the coworkers who aren't there at the moment. It's usually about what the women wore during certain events or discussions about whose wive is "hotter".
  1. People not answering messages at all (not even days later), not returning phone calls and generally not communicating what they are working on when you could so easily exchange ideas and help each other out.
pinkfanman · 20/07/2021 21:34

People who gate-keep and behave like the information belongs to them.
People who seem determined to take offence at everything
People who moan about everything and everyone - no one gets any slack.
People who have an inflexible closed minded attitude
People who don't give others credit for great ideas/work done.
Slackers
Bullies

MaMelon · 20/07/2021 21:43
  1. People who talk all the time. They’re the ones who seem to hate wfh most.
  2. People who take up most of the shared fridge with their huge Tupperware containers.
  3. Negative people who drain the life out of any idea or conversation.
  4. People who just don’t respond to emails and you have to chase them several times before kicking it upwards like a playground snitch to get them to move on it.
  5. People who treat their staff like shit but think baking cakes for the team meeting makes them fab managers
  6. The ones who do FA but get away with it by being utterly charming to the right people
Bargebill19 · 20/07/2021 21:46

Employers who say it’s a competitive wage when it’s minimum wage.
Employers saying all equipment supplied - when it’s not. Then they expect you to be able to do a job, without the right equipment.
Employers who offer £x per hour, then once you’ve started, say oops sorry we meant £a. Which is lot less per hour.
Employers which get upset when you refuse to overtime. Despite you having worked full time, 7 days per week for the last 2 months and need a day off.

Bargebill19 · 20/07/2021 21:48

Smokers who are allowed extra breaks because they smoke, but no one else gets any extra time at their breaks.

FizzyPink · 20/07/2021 21:52

I once timed the smokers in my team throughout the day. They took an extra 45 minutes out of the day outside smoking!

Mallowmazing · 20/07/2021 22:58

People who run meetings with no agenda and no clear actions after

People who raise objections / point out the negatives just to stall a project and avoid having to do any work themselves

Colleagues who have been there years but who don’t help newbies

Bad filing!
