Hi. I’ve just had two weeks off sick the first week will have been self certified. I’d like to go back tomorrow. I work 16 hours over two days. My fear is I may be going back too soon, it’s physically hard and I’m not young.
If I have to be off again would I still be able to claim SSP for a second time. The last time I had a sick note was 3 years ago for 1 week. Thank you.

Yes, it will kick in from day 1 if the last bout was within the last 8 weeks.

If you return to work too soon and need to go off again the two periods of sick are connected and I don't think you start from Day 1 again.

The short answer is yes you will get SSP if you go sick again.

You are entitled to 28. weeks SSP from your employer. This can be one block of 28 weeks or shorter periods.

When you first went sick you were not eligible for SSP for the first three days. After that you were paid SSP until you returned to work. If you return to work as intended and then go sick again within the next 8 weeks you will be eligible for SSP from day 1 of the absence. If you go sick more than 8 weeks after your return you would not be paid for the first 3 days.

HTH
