Apply for job or stay put

Been in new job for about 6 weeks. It's okay but I feel like I've definitely made a side ways move. Money is a bit less than I was on but my commute is now a fraction of what it was which is brilliant.

My dilemma really is that a job has come up that I think I'd be really good at and would definitely use and develop my skills/experience. I don't know whether to just apply for it and see what happens or just do my current job for a couple of years before trying to find something that moves me up a bit in my career.

It's a bit tricky with the area I work in though as good positions don't come up very often so I feel a bit like if I don't apply now for the new job I might not get another chance. On the other hand if I do apply for it and I am successful I'll have to hand in my notice after being in the job less than 2 months and burn my bridges with current employer!

Apply and see what happens. I was in pretty much the same position recently, applied, got the job, not looking back! Same kind of thing that the kind of job I wanted doesn’t come up very often and when I saw it I couldn’t not apply. It’s obviously not ideal to be leaving quickly but it happens - it’s just a job after all isn’t it and you have to do what’s right for you.

Definitely apply and see

I'm so tempted to apply, deadline is this Friday. I'm hesitating for a couple of reasons. It'll mean a longer commute again, not horrendous but about the same as I was doing plus if I do get offered it and turn it down for whatever reason I'll have burnt my bridges with them for any future positions - should add I don't know the salary/benefits or exact hours of new job. It's not stated on the online information and I emailed and asked a couple of questions about the job including anticipated salary range and hours but they answered all but those specific ones 🙄
