depends on office. i am not on display usually, so whatever i fancy, although have got less scruffy with age. usually jeans or skirt with boots and jumper. not trainers.

formal workplaces can be very very smart though. what is new job?

semi-smart - blouse/top and trousers or blouse and skirt/plain dress or pinafore. No bare legs.

tartanandtired · 23/11/2007 20:40

Our work is business casual so no jeans, trainers etc.

Girls tend to wear trousers or smartish skirts, tops tend to be nothing too low e.g.round neck or blouses or simple jumpers.

Does this make sense? I just have a few pairs of trousers, few tops, couple of cardis and I mix and match (I sound so old!) I just buy fairly plain things for work.

I have bare legs in summer helsy. We have business casual. I usually wear skirt or trousers with blouse or top or jumper. I usually wear heeled shoes or boots, but occasionally ballet flats. I have a jersey wrapround dress I wear quite a bit, with a vest underneath to avoid too much cleavage. This week I wore:
Tues - heeled black boots, thick tights, black skirt, black and white stripe shirt, grey tank top
Weds - same boots, tights, black wrap dress with white/beige pattern and white vest
Thurs - black heels, black trousers, blue long top, black 3/4 sleeve cardigan

Looking at that I had rather a black week. I will try to avoid black a bit next week.

I'm semi smart and wear trousers and layers in an attempt to be trendy but warm as office is freezing. I don't do heels so wear smart flats.

MamaG · 23/11/2007 20:50

Never jeans [horror]

Sujit for court/seeing clients

otherwise, smart trousers/skirts with plain tops. Heels, I love heels

kd73 · 23/11/2007 20:52

Check out Next multi packs. They normally do 3 tops. Last year I got 3 wrap tops for £26 which with a pair of smart (ish) trousers does the job nicely!

unknownrebelbang · 23/11/2007 20:55

Usually black trousers and a top - often a t-shirt because our office is usually roasting.

Occasionally a skirt.

I do also wear jeans sometimes, but then it suits the sort of place I work.

ELF1981 · 23/11/2007 21:01

Best bet on first day - go in a skirt and top, and take a jacket with you (smart skirt, smart top, not necc a shirt) and if everybody is all fancy like, stick on the jacket.

I'm in an office, I wear trousers and smart tops / shirts. Rarely a jacket, unless in meeting with our head of department / finance managers.

Tut tut at barelegs Bozza. I'm ok with cleavage though!
