Moving on from Admin

I've held various admin roles over about 18 years. I've been trying to gain an Executive Assistant/PA role in London but haven't had any bites of the cherry as yet.

I'm thinking now if there's any courses out there that I could do that would lead me down a different career path, for more money (my current role is pretty well paid for what I do) and in a short space of time.

Asking too much?! I'm nearly 40 and feeling stuck in a rut, hence the willingness to relocate. Has anyone managed to go from admin to something 'more'. I'm drawn to creative industries.

There are two approaches to this. You can build on your existing office experience but try to take it into a more creative environment. Alternatively, you continue using admin work to pay the bills while you train in a completely new career. That would work better if you want a creative role.

What kind of careers appeal to you?

I'd like to maybe even do both! I definitely wouldn't mind an admin job in a creative environment however unless you're a PA/EA, the pay doesn't look great (it's London I'd like to move to).

I was thinking of possibly doing a Project Management course or something by, not sure if that would be a good investment or what the market is like for those types of jobs.

And without sounding like a shallow Hal, as a single, childless nearly 40 year old, I want to indulge in the other things in life that make me happy (travel, eating out, buying clothes) so I want to earn more to afford these nice things Grin
