Clocking out question

8 replies

user8976500 · 28/06/2021 15:45

I work in retail and we have recently started clocking in and out. The machine to do this is located in the stockroom. At the end of the shift we clock out and then go upstairs to collect our belongings.
The problem is if the shop is still open after clocking out i need to walk through the shop floor to collect my belongings and end up with customers asking for advice. The past two shifts I have needed up finishing 10-15 minutes late.
Im getting fed up with finishing work late and missing my bus. Is it normal to have the machine in a place where you then have to walk through the shop floor surely it should be in the staff area.

That's not fair at all. The clockin thingie should be by the door you enter and exit.

Can you collect your things before clocking out and then just exit the workplace.

Tell the customers you are finished and running for a bus. You shouldn't work for free

Collect your things then clock out. Or is it possible to put something on over the top of your uniform so customers don’t know you are staff?

Put a casual top over your work top

@PixieKitten

Put a casual top over your work top
Can you do this? Pop your coat on? If someone stops you then say, my colleague over there can help?

"I'm sorry, I'm not working at the moment"

Definitely collect your belongings and put a jacket over your uniform before clocking out.
