Civil Service Interview -how long to hear?

I had an interview for a CS position 3 weeks ago. I was told I'd hear in 4 weeks, maybe sooner. Am I right in thinking that the longer it takes to let me know the less chance I have? I am thinking that they would let successful applicants know before sending rejection emails as the successful applicant may not accept. The suspense is killing me but now I am preparing for bad news.
Any thoughts?

You’re wrong. In a good way, No need is simply no news. HR for my department are inundated at present due to wfh & loosing numbers as staff were diverted to COVID related work. It’s frustrating, and not ideal when things are slow but it doesn’t necessarily mean bad news. Worth emailing the contact that was listed in the advert at the four week point but please don’t count yourself out yet xx

Yes DP says no news is no news. At least it's not bad news. I really would love this position!!!

Don't worry, they are notoriously slow in my area of Civil Service, I waited six weeks for one job after interview and a colleague recently waited eight weeks.
Also, once offered a job depending on the area, security type checks will be a good eight weeks maybe more.

Jeez it’s the slowest process in the world like pulling teeth good luck 😉

I feel your pain! I am also waiting to hear back from a CS interview a few weeks ago and was told I'd have heard by now. It's also a job I'd absolutely love. The wait is driving me crazy - I just want to know either way now so I can stop thinking about it!

Fingers crossed OP. I waited 4 weeks to hear anything after my CS interview last year and had written it off then was very surprised to get a phone call one fridat afternoon with job offer. It was nearly another 4 months till i started the job! painfully slow ...

I was interviewing last week and the candidates were told it could be August before they hear anything.

Ash2024 · 26/06/2024 15:13

Hi what was the outcome I am also waiting after interview

fusspot18 · 16/07/2024 12:14

I had an interview for a CS position 4 weeks ago. I had not heard back from them so I emailed for some updates, and this is what I got: "Thank you for your email.

Unfortunately, we are still awaiting an update from the vacancy holder regarding this vacancy. Many circumstances can cause the unexpected delay to the release of results, including the large number of candidates to consider. Please be assured that once there is any update you will be informed via your civil service jobs account.

If you have any further queries please do not hesitate to contact us again.

Kind Regards
