Can I apply for promotion whilst pregnant? Help!

Just found out some one in my team is leaving and he has the role ‘above’ mine (and which is sort of the role I joined the company for, but I didn’t get the title right away and then for various complicated reasons (not relating to my performance) just because of who he is and previous positions he has held within the company)) brought him in effectively over my head.

I want to ask for the role he is leaving to avoid this happening again BUT I’m 11 weeks pregnant and obviously employer doesn’t know yet. I feel like I should still get the same opportunities but equally can see if they agree then they will be annoyed when they find out I’m going to be off work for a good chunk of next year (and will probably be requesting shorter hours or part time when I come back).

What do I do? I really want the job!

Yes of course you can apply and you don't have to disclose your pregnancy

Of course you can apply. I was promoted at 6 months pregnant so it does happen.

Yes of course you should apply. A man with a pregnant partner wouldn’t think twice a out applying and we have laws to ensure that pregnant women are not disadvantaged.

I would however take a moment to think about the reduced / part time hours you are hoping for in the future, it could be that one role is more conducive to part time hours than the other.
