Hi All,
I just wondered really. i have recently got promotion at work which am obviously really chuffed about.
A colleague of mine also applied for promotion but didn't get to interview stage. She is now quite bitter but goes on about how she "puts her family first" and how important her children are (they are 16 and 5 btw).
Today she went on about not saying yes too much to work and letting it affect ds at all, how much i need to consider him etc.
I personally found it insulting and grossly unfair.
It is almost as though I am being selfish simply by going promotion and I am wondering if it is just sour grapes!
Any opinions welcome please

If she wants to put ds first why did she put in for a promotion? Bit strange from a woman who thinks promotion goes against the grain......

Be generous in your success and either ignore her comments, change the subject or gently tell her, "thank you for your concern, it's tricky managing the work-life balance isn't it?" smile and leave it there!

Well done on your promotion.

Thanks both. I agree ivykaty44. I have put previous comments down to her own disappointment but I feel pretty upset at the comments of family life.
She can be a bit of a martyr, saying how her children are her life, she has no life etc. I personally feel that a healthy balance is best. Its no good giving everything up for your kids then resenting them for it!
Like you say though WS, it is best to basically rise above it!

She sounds envious. Let her get on with it. Everyones family and circumstances are diferent so work for her wouldnt work for you. She obviously wanted the promotion otherwise she wouldnt have gone for it. She'll get over it.
