Part time

I’m part time for health reasons and recently changed my hours via FWR so don’t work one day in the week

Today a colleague said that because of this how is anyone else meant to book a full week off as it’s leaving us short on that day

It’s made me feel really down, it’s not my fault but it’s made to feel as though it is

Not sure what to do now?

Not sure it's your responsibility to do anything - management should be considering and planning resourcing in light of your health issues - which isn't always easy when people need to take time off for whatever reason, in the short term at least someone usually has to take on a heavier workload than usual.

But it’s also not fair for this colleague to imply that I’m the reason they are short staffed

That is what your colleague feels and they have shared it with you - but they'd feel like that regardless. It's hard when people need time off - it affects everyone whether they share it with you or not. Short term - people taking unexpected time off is difficult - unless you have a large workforce who can absorb the extra work.

Ridiculous guilt trip comment from your colleague, what if someone was sick or on holiday? But they're at an advance because they know which days you'll be off so should just need to adjust how they work so there's less impact on that day.
