Possible Redundancy

Hi,

My department announced yesterday that they need to make redundancies. I have a meeting this afternoon to discuss it more as my job is under threat

I have a slightly different job title to my colleague but we do the exact same job day in, day out. My colleague is safe because of their job title

I'm not in work today, just going in for the meeting, my colleague is getting stressed without me and the line manager has had to take somebody out of a totally different job and with a different job title and asked them to work with my colleague today doing exactly what I would be doing

For the last two years I haven't actually done the job that my job title reflects. I can't because it's one of those job titles which is just fancy and actually means nothing. Decisions are made above me and I'm never involved. I've never been involved from day one

When I started my job 6.5 years ago it was just me. The next year and every year after upto covid we got busier and busier so we employed two agency workers to help me. I was unofficially their supervisory. After a few years I raised this, I was given a new job title and small pay rise

Two years ago my colleague started working directly for the company and the two agency left. Two out, one in. As we were one full time employee down I had to stop doing certain parts of my role and work only alongside my colleague doing the exact same job as him

I'm not sure where I stand. It seems they want to get rid of my role because it's a job on paper that isn't needed but the job I'm actually doing is. My colleague has already said it will be physically impossible for them to do the job without me

I'm not sure which angle to approach this from.

TIA

Do you have a job description and a contract?

You can state this when they go through the process...... ask them to consider.

Ultimately they’ve made up their mind though.
