Development Opportunities

Our company has started offering 6-18 months development opportunities to cover management roles. We are told to write 300 words to say why we want the opportunity. I senr mine in and was told I didn't meet the criteria. I asked for feedback and was told that they looked at job description and my skills didn't match. Considering this is a chance to develop I was confused by this. Is it worth pushing for further feedback.? Considering the opportunities went to the usual people is it worth pushing this through HR processes?

Yes I think it would be perfectly reasonable to ask for further feedback and in particular what you can do to make yourself a better candidate for future opportunities. I would do this with your manager, I personally think going straight to an HR process would be counter productive.

Yes I would be pushing for detailed feedback and specific examples.
