How do I apply to change my working hours ?

I know that a couple of my work mates are paid starting earlier than the others, even though in reality they actually start at the same time as the rest.
How do I effectively apply to change my start and finish times ?
Thanks.

Make a flexible working request. Templates are online.

Do you intend to actually work the hours or is that to be as you perceive your colleagues and not work the full hours?

If your reason for asking is because you genuinely want to change your start and finish times, then you can make a flexible working request. Your organisation may have a flexible working policy giving you details how to do it, if not, the gov.uk website has information about what to put in your letter.

If your reason for asking is because your colleagues aren't working their contractual hours and you're (quite reasonably) not happy about them getting paid for longer hours than you (if that is what is happening), this isn't the way to address that.

I want to work the same start and finish time as them.

Which is the same 7.5 hours a day that I’m working now. It just starts and finishes 30 mins earlier.

I'm confused.

So you want to move your hours as your colleagues get paid more to start earlier but they don't? What stops you being held to those new hours and they are not?

Moonshine11 · 09/06/2021 20:01

Eh?
So they are contracted to 7.5 with a different start and finish time to you?
Your also contracted to 7.5?
How are they getting paid more? You basically want the earlier finish.

DinosaurDiana · 09/06/2021 20:45

I start at 8am, and the work starts at 8am.
They have some how managed to wangle getting paid from 7.30, and they arrive at 7.30, but there is no work to do until 8am. And everyone else starts at 8am, even if we arrive early.

They don’t get paid more, they get paid for 30 minutes when there’s no work to do.

Yes, I want the earlier start and finish because I’m usually there earlier like them.
Why are they treated differently when we all do the same job ?

No one here can tell that Confused

At my work all the HR information is on the staff website and I'd start there is I wanted to make a flexible working request. I imagine different employers will have different ways of doing it though.

Misread I thought you meant their paid more.

Regarding treating differently, did they make requests to change hours? Do they have a personal reason to work these hours? Childcare?

Not sure how a company would allow people ‘clocked’ in half hour before any work comes in/starts.
