Hi

Have any of you found LinkedIn useful? I am looking for work but I've only had a couple of people get in touch with work that isn't suitable.

I'm always glad to see people do well but it seems like a lot of people on LinkedIn are doing stealth boasts or are bullshitting about how much they love their workplaces.

I've been working for a lot of years and experienced some toxic office environments (as well as some good ones). Perhaps I'm just being cynical?

I got my last job via someone approaching me in LinkedIn

Hoppinggreen · 29/05/2021 21:30

Yes me too.
I also get clients from there.
I suppose it depends on the quality of your posts and contacts

Just got approached to apply for a great job via LinkedIn. Sadly too far for me to commute right now but otherwise I would have gone for it. The recruiter is now a contact and I hope she'll flag up more opportunities!

Merchymor · 29/05/2021 21:35

Forgot to say I hardly ever post on it but when I do it's sincere. I also hide colleagues I find annoying or boring.

I got my job on LinkedIn but by looking at the job board on there, not being approached. There are a lot of employers going direct on there, rather than via recruitment agencies, which I prefer.

As for the posts on LinedIn, well it's pretty much 90% promotional dross but I do see some interesting articles sometimes that I wouldn't have seen otherwise.

Oh it's utter bollocks but it's what people use for recruitment now, so it's worth being present on it. You don't have to read it.

We use it for recruitment - we contact all our applicants directly and never advertise on general job boards - they attracted too many of the wrong kind of applicants - ie they met none of our requirements. Sure there is bullshit but you have the choice to read or scroll on.
