Would switching to part time affect my career?

Im in my 20s and have worked mainly full time since I graduated - I then spent a couple of years working a 4 day week (but 10 hour shifts on those days).

For the last 2 years I've been working in a high pressure management role full time and sometimes more. I feel like my life is disappearing down a black hole and this is it for me. When I think about that for too long, I find it hard to bear dramatic as that sounds.

I have a hobby that I've had some success in but don't feel I can focus on it because of the full time work and the mental/emotional stress the type of industry I'm in takes from me. I now have a mentor in my hobby which is a step in the right direction but I want more - I feel jealous of people of a similar age I know who are putting their main focus into making money from the hobby. I think I have a good chance at having some degree of success in it if I give it more time and energy.

So - im thinking about switching from full to part time for a year or 2. This would give me time to focus on it while still earning money. It would mean a job with a lower salary and a step down the ladder rung. Im not sure how that will look to recruiters.

I feel like im doing the easy secure thing staying in the full time job but I don't feel happy now. The job I've seen is in an industry im really interested in and would be 3 days a week. What do you think?

Also if I apply for this part time job - should I mention anything in the cover letter about why I am changing to part time/a different kind of role?

Or leave that until later if I get that far
