Verbal offer but not received a written one

Hello,

DS applied for an Apprenticeship, he was offered the role verbally and he accepted. He was told he would receive the paperwork, either in the post or by email in the next week. It has been two weeks now and he hasn’t received anything. Would you advise him to follow this up now? I’d probably have given them a bit more time, with people working from home, but he has an interview next week. He doesn’t want to go ahead with it now, but I feel that he should, until he has something in writing.

Yes no harm at all in politely chasing.

memost · 12/05/2021 11:23

Yes chase - I hope they don’t say it’s because of wfh, it is a shit excuse - I’m completely fed up hearing it! Get him to go to the other interview - companies who can’t get there act together and do what they promise in recruitment are a red flag - be careful!

MotherOfGodWeeFella · 12/05/2021 11:25

Absolutely he should go for the other interview if the first company hasn't sent him a written offer. Has he checked his spam folder of his email in case it's gone into there?

Definetely! Contracts in my job and even when I'm snowed under I send them in a day max because people need to make a formal decision . 2 weeks is ridiculous .

Plus post?! Havn't seen a posted contract in over 6 years !

Absolutely. The lack of thought for their people concerns me - either they don't care or they are a mess - I don't know which is worse!

May obvious but has he checked his spam email folder?

Loopzy · 12/05/2021 15:19

Thank you for all your replies. He has been checking his spam folder too.

He has emailed and chased this up with them. They responded immediately and said he will receive a written offer by tomorrow latest. The whole process has been slow really, but they had kept him informed along the way, until now, so I was beginning to panic! I'm trying to convince him to attend the other interview, but he isn't keen.

Thanks
