Employer not paying pension

My friend's employer seems a very shady outfit and have stopped paying the employee's pensions. They have been reported too.

Are employers allowed to do this?

My friend and his colleagues seem to think the company are running business into ground and pocketing everything they can till Furlough ends in October.

No they’re not allowed to stop paying pension contributions.

Your friend is right that this is likely to indicate financial issues. He should report his employer to The Pensions Regulator and start looking for a new job.

Thankyou. He has reported them along with other staff members.

Definitely an issue for reporting to the Pensions Regulator..also be mindful that if they are an iffy outfit they may also not be paying any tax and NI back to HMRC that they have deducted through PAYE so as soon as your friend leaves the company make sure they check with HMRC,
their NI contributions and tax too!

Absolutely not allowed. They can postpone for a new starter for a certain amount of time but not for an existing starter.
