Is the grass ever greener at work

I am in a predicament and not sure whether to take a new job that is probably going to be offered to me. I currently have a decent job paying £40k pa. The Company is not great to work for, benefits are shocking and they literally drain everyone by only employing the absolute bare minimum needed. Work is always busy and I feel I don’t have the time or team to do a thoroughly amazing job (service provider). The best bits are I am literally my own boss and my office is local etc. New job will be for a more premium company with good prospects but I will be required to travel daily and KPIs will increase although I a, sure I could meet them. Salary will be £60k pa so a huge increase and we will be able to save all of the extra each year. I am 50 years old btw so would be great for our retirement etc. WWYD? Stick with what you know in a lower paid job or move on even though it will require more travelling etc

I get very bored sitting in a role too long. I wouldn't hesitate to take the new challenge, if you're apprehensive about work life balance, discuss this in the negotiation, what could you do to balance it better? Work flexi? A day a week at home? Perhaps just discuss with them the culture and how autonomous you'll be for reassurance. The great thing about being on the fence about a job is that you shouldn't be afraid to challenge them to make sure the role is right for you.

Taking the money and the travelling out of the equation (because your post suggests you can manage on your present salary and you could cope with the travelling) which would be your ideal job?

Well I would 100% move on, since you aren't in a situation where DC preclude or obstruct travelling.
