Probably stupid question alert, sorry.
If SSP is £96.35 per week and Lower Earnings limit qualifying for NI is £120 week - what happens with NI while someone is on SSP - I thought it continued to be paid but how? Is the employer supposed to inform HMRC?

You won’t pay NI.
Is this about having a full year for benefits/pension? If so I think you can get Class 1 credits, but may have to apply for them www.gov.uk/national-insurance-credits/eligibility
