Should I apply for this promotion?

I'm pregnant with DC1 and going on mat leave in the next few months. I've just found out that my line manager is moving onto a new job. I'm confident I could do the job, in fact we were recruited at the same time and I almost applied for it myself. In reality, if I got the job, I'd only be in the job a few weeks before my mat leave kicks in. Finding cover for the higher position and recruiting for my job may be easier for my employer (it may also be more difficult). Not sure if I should speak to someone within the company to find out if this is a good idea. I know I technically can't be discriminated against but is this a bad move? In the long term it would be a more challenging role with better pay etc. If it makes a difference, if I wasn't pregnant I would apply for it.

Of course.

Definitely. You'll regret it if you don't.

They'll need to cover your role either way so not hugely different in practical terms

Absolutely apply for it! Don't let your pregnancy get in the way.

Do it! I got promoted two days before my maternity leave started
