Advice please - thinking of becoming childminder for age 8+

Does anybody else childmind (or has previously) for just age 8+ and can give any advice?

I know you don't need to be registered but are there any particular things you need to have in place?

Perhaps consider activities for him/her. Games, puzzles, paints, coloured pencils. When I looked after my grandchildren we used the above plus cake making or planting things in the garden if you have one.
You will find out what they like to do when you know them. Enjoy talking to them.

Is there a high demand for it in your area? It would limit you to families with no younger siblings, and you’ll be unlikely to be able to do multiple school pick ups because of timings.

If you’re not registered then people can’t use tax credits, UC or childcare vouchers to pay you which limits you again.

I know it isn't a legal requirement to be registered for that age, but I strongly recommend you voluntarily register.
You'll be hugely limiting your audience if you don't. Like a PP mentioned above, people won't be able to use you if they're in receipt of UC/Tax Credits etc, not to mention the reassurance for parents of using a registered childcare provider.
