Can I delay my start date

I start a new job on Monday and I’ll be working away from home until hubby retires and joins me in December.
He’s just had an accident and as broken his leg.
I can’t leave him as we’ve no family near us at all and his DS can’t take time off work.
I’m in a mad panic now as I’m meant to be moving up to Carlisle the weekend and starting my job on Monday.
Hubby as said he can look after himself but he’s hopeless. Could I delay my start date or does it make me look unreliable and they will withdraw the job.
I’ll be working for a charity so hoping they will be compassionate but I’m not sure what I’m doing.

I think you just need to call them and explain. Can you do some work from home? Is there an option to get a family member to come and stay?

Sadly not regarding family member, I think I’ll just have to ask for a delay in starting. I kinda guess if they want me that badly they would wait?

Can he get to the toilet on his own?
If so you can leave him, just make sure everything is in reach
