I'm currently on furlough, have been for a year. As per my furlough contract I contacted my boss & asked her if it was ok to take on other work & she agreed. My question is should I expect her to keep this information to herself as there is no business need for other staff to know? The reason I'm asking is that she has told other colleagues

I cannot see any reason why this would be confidential. What would you want to do even if it were? I don’t really understand where you are coming from.

I mean its not necessary for her to tell other people but I also don't think its really confidential information. If I would be paissed off would depend on the context did she say "that bitch is raking it in working while on furlough" or did she say "you know you could take on extra work like so and so that would help with your bills"

I don't know the context in which it was said. It's a small business so she is like the HR person as well as my boss. Sorry but I think it should be confidential if it's part of the furlough contract that you have to ask permission from a specific person. I'm single & struggling to make ends meet on 80%. I don't want everyone knowing my financial situation.

I dont think knowing you are working while on furlough equals knowing your financial situation. I know a few very highly paid people who definitely weren't struggling for money who have worked while on furlough as they were bored.

Ok. Well I've worked in a lot of companies with proper HR departments & ime anything discussed with them is confidential. I guess this person doesn't see it that way but that's not necessarily right is it?
