End of Probation panic

My end of probation was last month. Due to lots of board meetings that have happened it was postponed to end of March beginning of April. After a reminder by me on Monday and a meeting with HR on Tuesday so have a meeting in my diary for Friday at 3pm.

Call me paranoid, but in my (not my own) experience Friday in the afternoon is not a good sign that you have been made permanent. I do not suffer from anxiety but I’m feeling pretty anxious. I also have a job interview lined up for later today but though a great company I’m not sure about the position.

I'm not sure I'd worry too much. In my experience you would know if you had failed probation. Even if the company were not organised enough to arrange support and extra training their dissatisfaction would probably have been obvious.

I don’t think Friday afternoon means very much. Other than it is generally considered poor form to deliver bad news on a Friday, it is better delivered in a Monday or Tuesday so the individual can take action and not spend the weekend stewing.

Also note that probationary period has no meaning in statutory employment law anyway.

I’ve clearly worked for dodgy companies. They would always call someone to HR on a Friday afternoon and then someone from HR would come and collect their belongings.

I understand I have no rights statutory wise for two years, if that’s what you mean, I just happen to like the job and the people, so feel very anxious. And my previous experience shadows the experience

I schedule difficult meetings on friday afternoons. But I mean the once in a blue moon, proper humdingers. Usually i put the easy peasy tick boxes in to gently bring me to the weekend - I'd consider a probation sign off or extension one of the those. I'm sure you'll be fine.

Presume the Friday they're talking about is next week as they've messed up if they've scheduled your end of probation meeting for Good Friday Grin

I think if you hadn’t passed it, they would have remembered and found time for a quick meeting to tell you.

It was not panicking. I have not got a job due to a restructure. They’re too busy to train me. They offered me something else removing a 3rd of my salary and what they offered was a) something I said I didn’t want to end up doing and b) if I do now go back to it, I’d command more money. They have offered to keep me for 3 months or until I find something else, which is nice.
