Recruiter mix up?

I've been approached by a recruiter to apply for a job more senior to the one I have now. I could do the job but it would be a step up.

They are looking for some particular experience I don't have and I was recommended by someone I don't know. I suspect the recruiter meant to contact my boss about this opportunity and got mixed up.

Should I still send in my CV and have an intro chat? Ie use this as an opportunity. Or would that be embarrassing? I haven't pointed out I don't have the experience they want but pressure they'll see once I send my CV.

Strange that a recruiter would make such a humongous mix up, so I would be inclined to go ahead with the conversation. The worst that can happen is that they don’t proceed I assume.

Also strange that somebody you don’t know has recommended you, no answer to that.
