NHS Rostering: how does this work?

So I've not been shown how to use this, just had notification of first shifts and I cannot do them, I've made it clear from the start about what hours I can do due to childcare but its not been considered plus I have holiday booked carried over from 2020 booking I could not cancel due to covid and they have booked me in for that week too. I feel bad my first day in and I have got to talk to them about this, makes me look bad. The manager is pretty scary too, quite unapproachable and I fear this is not a good start. I've never done shift work before, I'm such a noob and don't want to upset anyone. Feel like this work lark is a big mistake as its too complicated when you've got kids. Ugh... I will not sleep again tonight from the worry of it all. Anyone have any words of encouragement? Been through the same thing? Thanks...

With our rostering system we just book on for what we can and notify rostering if we need to cancel, the sooner the better. They are normally okay about it.

I have the joy of writing rosters 😬
Talk to your boss sooner than later, politely point out their mistake and be prepared with alternative shifts you can work instead.

It doesn't make you look bad. It's a mistake due to lack of communication between interviewer and roster-writer.

Approach the problem professionally; it will be sorted.

Please don't stay up worrying about it!

I do rosters at work, I usually put shifts in for new people and unless the manager has told me about previous commitments I just allocate as I normally would.

I would speak to your new manager and just explain what confirmations you were given when you took the job (childcare and holiday).

I get people changing and swapping shifts daily!
