Need Advice: Actuarial Field in the UK

FatSheep · 25/03/2021 06:22

I am holding a US actuarial credential (Society of Actuaries) and would like to look for actuarial related work in the UK. Would there be any hurdle because I do not own a UK actuarial credential?

Any advice? Thanks very much in advance.

These would probably be the people to ask www.actuaries.org.uk/

Or ring a UK based recruitment consultant?

(DH is an actuary, not me).

IME overseas qualifications aren’t too much of a problem as long as you’ve got the appropriate experience for the job. I’ve worked with people with a whole bunch of different qualifications. Having the right to work in the UK is much more of a hurdle.

But I agree with the PP, a recruiter should be happy to advise you.

More specifically: www.actuaries.org.uk/membership/mutual-recognition

There is not currently a mutual recognition of SoA qualification in the UK, but that should not prevent you doing actuarial work. I have UK colleagues who have worked in the US for secondments etc so I’m sure it can work the other way!
