Asking for part time hours

Just wondering with peoples experiences asking for flexible working-changing to part time hours from full time? This is just for future reference
I work 47.5 hours a week, 5 days a week and in the future when I start a family I would be looking to drop 2 days a week as childcare costs are extortionate. What are peoples experiences with asking for part time hours regarding childcare?

Thanks

In my last job there were quite a few mums. The company was very supportive of maternity leave and generous and understanding upon return. It was accepted that most mums came back to work 4 days a week including one day working from home.

But we still had to request and put forward a case for working part time. I did this for working 3 days a week, and one of my suggestions was that I would always be in the office.
You have to consider the needs of the company and show how your changed role will fit with those needs. Think practically but also consider your experience and knowledge which you bring back.
Don’t be afraid to show ambition if you want to progress.
