someone please help me! my employer is absolutely useless and every time
i approach the conversation of how maternity pay works i get shut down and told we have plenty of time until we need to talk about it. I’m 25 weeks and starting to struggle with my attendance at work and with my day to day responsibilities so i’m ready to start thinking about it.

I understand that in the first 6 weeks you get paid 90% of your regular wages. So would it be 4 weeks of 90% for one pay check and then in the next month get paid for 2 weeks of 90% pay and 2 weeks of SMP? or do you just get paid for 6 weeks in one go and then also on get SMP for the rest of the month? sorry I hope this makes sense to
someone!

You get paid on your normal paydays so you'd get some of the 90% in one pay and some of it in the next with some SMP. The 90% is based on the pay in roughly weeks 17-25 of pregnancy

If you have your SMP1 and know when you want to start mat leave you can write to your employer now to inform them of your plans.
