Flexible working

If they're saying that my flexible working hours aren't working anymore but I say I want to keep it as it is, what can they do?
What would happen?

Your hours usually have to be balanced with business need. It would go before your HR panel. Usually they'll try and meet you in the middle.

If the business hasn't changed and you have done the hours for a long time, you could argue what's the change?

What are your hours out of interest?

It depends - are you performing to expectations? Has the role changed where flexible working no longer suits the role?

Blueskyredcloud · 19/03/2021 09:46

I don't think you've told us enough.

What do you need to know?

Are your flexible hours contractually agreed - or are they a by product of the covid thing?

Contractually agreed

We can't advise OP if you're going to be evasive.

What are your hours, on what days?
What are the full time standard hours?
How long have you had the flexible hours?
Has the business changed?
What is their justification for asking for change?

We can't give any advise unless we know the above

The key thing is that your hours have to work for business need as well as for you, but as a matter of courtesy it would be good to understand what exactly about your current arrangement isn’t working. There might be room for a compromise

I was told when I wanted to change my staff's hours that we'd have to go into "consultation" but essentially business needs trump employees, contracts can be amended and it is suck it up or leave (not sure if leave would have meant some kind of redundancy or not though). No idea if that's actually true as I didn't need to do it in the end.
