Interviews & job hunting when signed off sick. WWYD?

I'm currently signed of sick with depression (triggered by issues around a bereavement). Currently having private counselling and on meds.
I want to leave current job as need a new start. Too many things about the workplace and the type of work are triggering for me. No option to stay there AND recover from my depression, please don't ask me to explain this because it's hard to put into words.
My questions are: Is it ethically ok to attend interviews when off sick?
If interviewer discovers my current/recent sickness record for the depression, would this case doubt on my suitability/honesty? If I explain it's due to a traumatic bereavement would that be acceptable grounds for sickness absense?
I know some of you might say wait till feeling better to start the job hunt, but it's the current job and how it reminds me of so much to do with the beareavement that's making me feel so ill.
I need to be out of there (permanantly) before I can start feeling better.
WWY say at interviews or applications if questioned about sickness?

It is absolutely fine to attend interviews when off sick with depression. Your sick note says that you are not fit to carry out your current role at the moment, it doesn’t mean you can’t attend interviews for a different role which will relieve your depression. I’m sorry for your loss Flowers wishing you luck in your job hunting.

I attended interviews as I was being bullied and the doctor signed me off. I was actually never asked about sick leave at any interviews (I think they tread carefully now as I remember they used to ask about it). I think if they do ask you answer that you have had a sickness period due to a bereavement and leave it at that.
